Twitter For SEO Purposes: Tweeting Your Way To The Top?
If you work in the online marketing, web design, and/or search engine optimization fields and you haven’t heard of Twitter by now, you’ve likely been living under a rock. Twitter is possibly the most popular social media website/application at the moment, and it seems like SEO consultants either love it or deride it as useless.
Our SEO company is a fan of Twitter (follow us @SEOGroup), of course, and we have over two hundred followers, making us fairly popular in the Twitterverse. Granted, we aren’t exactly Robert Scoble or Guy Kawasaki, but drawing inspiration, getting updates on new and interesting articles, and answering questions from our followers has helped develop online and offline relationships. It also helps to spread your content and improve your social media campaigns - you can even ask your Twitter followers to digg, stumble, sphinn, mixx or otherwise vote for your posts (as long as that is not the only thing you use Twitter for - it is definitely a give as much as you take sort of community). An active Twitter account can also be an excellent reputation management tool.
So what do you think of Twitter? Love it? Hate it? Share your thoughts and your Twitter handle (if applicable) in the comments!

I’ve only just started using Twitter and within less than a week I’m fairly much addicted. Haven’t really used it to achieve anything productive yet, but that’ll come in time I’m sure.

I’ve been using Twitter since it started (hence the prime 2-letter username @Si) and have become addicted.
Not only is it a source for general communication and discussion with friends, family and peers, I’ve found it to be hugely useful as a marketing tool.
With all my online projects, I use Twitter to create a buzz around a topic, to assess feedback as well as spreading viral messages about new services and updates. With over 800 “followers” (knowing full well approximate 10% of those are Twitbots), it’s quite easy to broadcast announcements globally quickly, cheaply and easily.
It has also been quite useful for boosting websites up the ranking of search engines quickly. Within a day of tweeting a new website, it has been listed on the first SERP for key terms.
Rumours have it Google are considering buying Twitter due its fresh, reliable content - evidence, if any, that Twitter is a powerful tool in the online world.
