That is where the Medici Effect comes in. For the unfamiliar, the Medici Effect is a concept and a book written by Frans Johansson (you can read the Medici Effect online here). It is based on the idea that argues that innovations occur when people see beyond their expertise and approach situations actively and with fresh eyes, with an aim toward putting available materials together in new combinations. The title comes from the great leaps in technology, art, philosophy, literature, and the overall way of thinking that occurred in Renaissance Italy, especially in Florence where the patronage of the wealthy Medici family allowed for the Western world’s most talented and intelligent people to come together.

So what does this have to with online marketing? The best SEOs and search engine marketing specialists have the ability to think outside of the industry norms and standards and come up with creative solutions for their clients. Perhaps they have backgrounds in other fields besides SEO, like web design, creative writing, or disciplines that seem even more fundamentally disparate, however, that combination of skills helps them to devise unique and innovative solutions. This helps them to make unusual and creative connections that end up being some of the most successful internet marketing tactics out there - and it certainly helps their clients stand out as well.
