SEO Like A Champion Today: What Would Rudy Do If He Was An SEO?

Today’s “what would ____ do if they were an SEO?” covers a topic near and dear to this writer’s heart*: Notre Dame football, and more importantly, the story of Rudy Ruettiger and how he was determined to play for the Fighting Irish, despite a lack of natural athletic or academic ability.  Clearly, if Rudy was in the online marketing field, he would likely go for it all and try to rank for impossibly difficult keywords - but it is likely that he would put in the work and have the determination to eventually succeed.

Rudy was known for having big, even ridiculous dreams, because like his best friend said “having dreams is what makes life tolerable“.  However, he was also more than willing to put in the effort to make those dreams come true, even spending two years at junior college getting the grades to transfer to Notre Dame, and then spending two more years as cannon fodder for the football team’s starting players before finally getting to dress for and play in a game.  It only goes to follow that as an SEO, he would have plenty of patience and the right work ethic to build some of the most consistently popular sites on the web, despite not being as flashy or self-promoting as some of the name brand SEO companies or consultants out there.

No one put it better than Fortune, former ND football player and Rudy’s boss - “You’re five foot nothin’, a hundred and nothin’ and you hung in with the best college football team in the land for two years, and you were also going to walk out of here with a degree from the University of Norte Dame in this life time you don’t have to prove nothing to nobody except yourself and after what you gone through if you haven’t done that by now, it aint gonna never happen“.  To put it in online marketing terms, Rudy would hang in there with the big boys - the companies that have tons of money and resources behind them - and likely manage to beat them in the SERPs despite their advantages.

Of course, once he did get his website to the top position on page one and experience the resulting increase in traffic and overall business growth, he might say that “this is the (second**) most beautiful sight these eyes have ever seen” like his father did upon entering Notre Dame Stadium for the first time.

*Yes, this SEOGroup blogger does have a degree from Notre Dame, hence the profound love of all things related to ND football, including Rudy.

**Even seeing your website at the top of the SERPs is not as beautiful as Notre Dame Stadium on game day.
