SEO Copywriting and When to Break the Rules

Ninety-nine percent of the time, it is best to follow grammar and spelling conventions; after all, writing lik this maks u look stewpid. However, our SEO company knows that sometimes breaking the rules - using an alternative spelling, incorrect grammar, or other intentional errors can make your writing distinctive and memorable.

First of all, you have to know the rules in order to break them - the difference between someone who simply doesn’t know proper grammar and someone who is purposely writing in an unconventional style is obvious. It is the difference between using “their” when it should be “there” in your copy and instances like Apple’s “Think Different” tag line. Technically, think different is not correct, but that tag line is striking and easy to remember - and encapsulates what Apple products are all about.

Of course, Apple knows what they are doing when they break the rules. Use their style as an inspiration for your own seo copywriting techniques - take advantage of the way that sentence fragments or verb disagreements stand out and use them to grab your visitor’s attention with your blog posts and article titles. Lolcats are another example of completely outrageous spelling and grammar that manages to hold people’s attention; of course, using that type of language wouldn’t work for every business but it might be good for adding some humor to your blog from time to time. Just make sure it is clear that you are breaking the rules on purpose!
