SEO and “Egomunnication”: Appeal To Influencer’s Egos

As the majority of our readers are likely already aware, getting high quality links to your site is a critical aspect of search engine optimization.  While there are almost as many ways to go about getting links as there are SEO companies, one way to ensure that the linkerati in your niche (the other bloggers who tend to link out to content they like) notices your blog or website to mention them by name and link to their site.  Rohit Bhargava, author of the Influential Marketing Blog, coined a term for this sort of attention-getting strategy - he called it “egomunnication“.

Of course, simply mentioning someone in your post doesn’t necessarily mean they will link back to it - it is not that easy.  However, writing something that is interesting and relevant to their blog/topic area and calling it to their attention does make the likelihood of some return link love much higher.  After all, people are much more likely to link to and comment on a post that appeals to their egos (and besides, bloggers tend to appreciate the recognition and reward it with a link or two).

Next time you write a blog post, think about the influential bloggers in your niche or industry and what they might be interested in, and find a way to link to a related post of theirs or simply mention their name (with a link to their blog or website, naturally) - it is almost certain they will find and read your post (ego searches are very popular), and if it is something they find useful, creative, or otherwise compelling, it is likely you will get a link.  At the very least you will get on their radar for future links and traffic, simply by appealing to their ego.
