Secrets of SEO Copywriting Part 1: Keywords
“Content is king.” You have no doubt heard this countless times, but it gets so much repeat play for a good reason. When it comes to your company website, as well as your search engine optimization and search engine marketing, your content is the key element that attracts and converts visitors.
However, creating compelling content is not always easy, especially when you are writing for the web. After all, everything on your site has to be optimized for both user experience and search engine rankings (check out our free SERP tracking tool if you want to see how your site is doing thus far).
An essential SEO technique and a key part of writing online content is using your keywords appropriately - while a keyword stuffed blog post or homepage might get you some traffic, you have to write for both the search engine spiders and the people who are reading your page if you want to actually convert those visitors into clients and customers. This means seeding your keywords organically throughout your website and blog posts. Since your search terms should reflect how people actually speak, it shouldn’t be hard to place them throughout your content in a natural manner.
If you have a hard time writing with your keywords in mind, try writing out the whole article, leaving it for a day or two, and then going back through and adding them in - you will likely discover new ways and creative ways to include them.
Furthermore, using several variations on your key phrases, such as “Chicago SEO company“, “Chicago search engine marketing company“, “search engine optimization company” and “SEO company“, that all have the same meaning is one to mix things up. Using the plural/singular versions of words and changing up verb tenses are other ways to add some linguistic flair. Using more accurate modifiers - like “free SEO tool” versus simply “SEO tool” can be beneficial as well.
Last but not least, it is essential to remember that while keyword density is important for the search engines, having content that is easily understood by humans is king.
