Search Engine Optimization Through the Eyes of Ernest Hemingway
Ernest Hemingway is generally regarded as one of America’s greatest writers and he certainly was an amazing, creative storyteller - a talent that would come in handy when crafting a successful search marketing campaign. Like our Chicago SEO company, Hemingway was from the Windy City; he was born in the suburb of Oak Park. Also, he might have approached SEO and online marketing (especially the copywriting) in a similar fashion - The Papa would have understood that a few quality articles are worth more than dozens of keyword stuffed blog posts.
On whether he would be a white hat or a black hat SEO: “About morals, I know only that what is moral is what you feel good after and what is immoral is what you feel bad after“, which neatly sidesteps the issue. He probably would have also looked up to the search marketing industry’s luminaries, as he claimed “as you get older it is harder to have heroes, but it is sort of necessary.”
He’d probably never over promise results, as he was humble about his abilities - “for a long time now I have tried simply to write the best I can. Sometimes I have good luck and write better than I can.“ Also, he would not burn himself out - “I learned never to empty the well of my writing, but always to stop when there was still something there in the deep part of the well, and let it refill at night from the springs that fed it.”
Last but not least, he would listen to his clients carefully, and like SEOGroup, he’d know that every client was different - “I like to listen. I have learned a great deal from listening carefully. Most people never listen.” And understanding each niche and market is one of the essential characteristics of great SEO/SEM.
