Reinventing Your Brand In Social Media
You are probably already aware that social media marketing is a great way to reinvent your brand image or to simply spread the word about any changes or developments at your website or company, and strangely enough, pop icon Britney Spears is providing a great example for companies out there looking to delve into the social media experience. Naturally, our SEO company is keeping an eye on Britney and all of her branding endeavors.
In her own effort to distance herself from a controversy-filled past, Britney Spears is launching (yet another) comeback push. The release of her new single “Womanizer” is accompanied by a social media campaign– you can now friend or follow Britney on Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, MySpace and the singer’s own social network, located in the VIP section of her website.
Although Spears will find herself in the company of many other celebrities featured on MySpace, Facebook, and YouTube, Twitter is a foray into the unknown for the majority of recording artists. Celebrities are certainly represented on the site, but most of them are web/tech industry heavy hitters, politicians or media bigwigs. Twitter is relatively uncharted territory for the pop music set, and we think treading that path will pay off for Spears (or at least, for her marketing company). By being in the first wave of pop music artists to launch a Twitter campaign, in concordance with her traditional media and new music offerings, Spears will be able to tap into a market she might have missed otherwise.
What should your company take from Spears’ actions? First of all, go social. Especially when you are making changes to your company, social media is an excellent way to announce them. Britney’s using it to say, “Hey look! I’m not crazy anymore!” Your company could use it send an equally important message to your consumers. Secondly, just because everyone isn’t doing it, doesn’t mean it’s not right for you.
Britney hasn’t yet been joined by peers like Jessica Simpson, Christina Aguilera and Madonna on Twitter, but that’s to her advantage. Since Twitter updates are essentially a cheaper way of keeping fans up-to-date with news, rather than using text messages or emails, Britney’s fans get news while Britney gets extra exposure that her pop singer competition hasn’t yet tapped into. You can adapt her strategy to suit your business by beating your competitors to the punch and jumping into the social media pool as soon as possible.

Great post. I am not an SEO expert but I have just recently started experimenting with social media and blogging to get more business exposure. I have seen a little spike in traffic I wonder if it will hold up over the long run. I would love your take on my experiment. Good post. I guess I will need to get the Twitter thing cranked up also. I’ll digg, mark as technorati favorite, and link to your post since it was I am trying.
