Online Marketing From Charles Barkley’s Perspective

This week our SEO company is looking at online marketing through the eyes of the esteemable Sir Charles, one of professional basketball’s most beloved characters who has become known as much for his off-court antics as his legendary talent and playing abilities.

As an online marketer, Charles Barkley would be likely be very successful at developing unique brands and identities for his clients as well as himself.  Of course, it is also likely that he would be well known for creating controversy, making outrageous statements, and generally getting plenty of attention, considering that his actual career has been filled with newsworthy moments.  Sir Charles would be a master of link-baiting.  Take this situation, for instance:

“After Kevin Garnett threw a ball into the crowd out of frustration and was ejected. They showed footage of the man that got hit by the ball being taken away in a stretcher and his daughter was crying. Charles commented that players take passes to the face all the time. He topped it off by saying: “You know why that little girl’s crying? It’s because she’s thinking ‘my daddy’s a wussy‘”.

Or this situation:

“On the Portland Trail Blazers (back when they were known as the Jail Blazers) serving Thanksgiving meals: “In between arrests they do community service.”

On the other hand, it is highly unlikely that Sir Charles would stress too much over anything that happened, after all, his philosophy was essentially to “just relax and let (his) talent do the work“.  And who can forget when he said “My initial response was to sue her for defamation of character, but then I realized that I had no character.” after hearing that Tonya Harding was going to call herself the Charles Barkley of figure skating.  Clearly, the good Sir is not the type that cares too much what people are saying about him, as long as they are saying something.  He’d be excellent at generating a buzz around a product or an idea - viral marketing would definitely be his strong suit.
