No Reservations For Page One: Anthony Bourdain & Online Marketing
Ah, Anthony Bourdain - he is cranky, often ill-tempered, and sarcastic - and his millions of fans love him anyway. He wouldn’t be quite the same without being a chef, of course, but this week our SEO company is looking at online marketing from Bourdain’s unique perspective.
His sarcasm and sense of humor would remain if he was an SEO consultant, of course, and writing attention-getting and highly linkworthy blog posts would be his specialty. After all, Bourdain is a writer at heart, and quality content is one of the most important aspects of search engine optimization and online marketing. He would also always be straight with his clients and readers - even if he used black hat tactics at one time, he’d likely admit it later. In fact, he might even be a reformed black hat type if you transcribe his real career’s arc from drug-abusing chef to (relatively) clean author and host of No Reservations.
As an online marketing specialist, Anthony Bourdain would be a tireless worker. And we quote - “I know there’s deep inside (me) some lazy hippie who’d be perfectly happy to lay on the couch, smoke weed and watch `The Simpsons’ all day - I’m really afraid of that guy. I don’t like him. I don’t want him around. And my whole life is kind of constructed to avoid reverting to that guy: Stay busy. Stay focused. Try not to mess up.” He also wouldn’t be afraid to try new techniques and experiment with different approaches, because “I’m not afraid to look like an idiot“.
Considering the level of success he has managed to achieve thus far, we find it unlikely that he would do anything truly idiotic that wasn’t fixable, at least (blog posts can always be edited and code can always be tweaked, after all). Lastly, we know how he would always keep his individual flair and never imitate or blindly follow the industry leaders, or as he said himself “just because you like Jimi Hendrix doesn’t mean you can play like Jimi Hendrix“. Accordingly, just because you admire Aaron Wall, Michael Gray, or any of the amazing SEOMoz staff doesn’t mean you should try to cop their style.
