Nowadays, it seems like there is a social network for every possible niche or topic area, from getting a good night’s sleep to online marketing and SEO.  Accordingly, there is probably one that is related to your business - and participating in a niche social media site is a great way to drive traffic to your own website or blog.  A key part of our SEO company’s overall strategy involves researching each client’s market, including any relevant niche social bookmarking or networking sites.  Here are a few tips for taking advantage of these genre sites:

Do Your Research

There are a ton of websites out there, so finding the appropriate social media sites for your topic takes some research.  Check out industry blogs as well searching social media blogs - Mashable.com and Alltop’s social media sections are both good places to start.

Build Out Your Profile

Fill in all the blanks and add links to your website, company blog, any content feeds, and your logo to your profile.  A complete profile lends you much more credibility and allows other users to discover everything your business has to offer.

Actively Participate

Besides submitting your own content (there’s nothing wrong with a little self-promotion), vote for other articles that you like, comment on other posts, friend other users, etc.  After all, you have to give a little in the form of your time and participation in order to get a little in regard to traffic and links.

Besides, through participation you might learn useful new information, network with others in your industry, and discover new prospects - especially because the visitors on niche sites are more likely to be interested in what your business has to offer.

Good Things Come To Those Who Wait

Like search engine optimization, a good social media campaign requires time and effort to implement.  Therefore, you can’t expect immediate results - however, results in the form of traffic and conversions will come over time (and the same goes for blogging as well).  You have to maintain your participation level and remember that when it comes to search engine optimization, good things come to those who wait.
