Making Wikipedia Pages that Stick: Getting Your Brand in Wikipedia
It is no secret that Wikipedia pages tend to rank incredibly well in Google, making them highly coveted by SEO consultants and their clients. In fact, any SEO company knows that if you have a client who is notable enough to merit a Wikipedia page, you’re likely going to have a much easier time getting their sites to rank.
However, creating a Wikipedia page that actually sticks around and doesn’t get immediately deleted by the site’s editors is easier said than done. After all, anything that appears to be blatant self promotion or advertising will get deleted pretty quickly by the site’s editors, and they are always on top of their game.
There are three elements of a good Wikipedia page that will ensure your article sticks around:
1. Quality content written in an unbiased fashion with the intent to inform (as opposed to promote, persuade, or entertain).
2. A genuine reason the subject is notable or your link is relevant and worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia.
3. Credibility and reputation. If you as a user develop a reputation for spamming Wikipedia with your own links, creating actual articles that stick around is going to become an uphill battle. Working on editing existing articles and participating in the Wikipedia community will go a long way towards successful article submission.
