Creative Writing and SEO: Five Tips For Creative and Compelling Copy
One of the most important talents that all types of marketers must possess is creativity, and online marketing is no different. Creative copywriting is a particularly important skill, especially for link-building. After all, in order to get links your site or blog has to be worthy of them. Here are five tips that will make your copy more creative and compelling:
Use a Different Voice
Write a post in a very different style than you typically do - for instance, use LOLspeak, go ultra-formal or informal (whatever is the opposite of your typical style), or even get a guest blogger in order to change it up. Imitate your favorite movie character, athlete, or other well-known personality. For instance, writing in Mike Ditka’s distinctive voice would probably be appropriate, since we are a Chicago SEO company.
Use a Different Media
If you always write posts that are mostly text, try doing a podcast or video one of the these days. It is a great way to interact with your readers and put a more human face on your blog (this can be especially good for a business blog, as it shows the person behind the brand). Be sure to submit your video or podcast to the appropriate niche bookmarking sites as well - these types of media can do well there.
Use the “What Would ______Do?” Format
If you are a regular reader of our blog, you are probably already aware that this SEO company likes to write about what ____would do if they were an SEO. This can be especially interesting and entertaining if you use individuals or characters that are very outside the norm or peculiar, especially in regard to your industry. Besides, haven’t you ever wondered how someone like Machiavelli or Al Capone would be as SEOs or online marketers?
Use a Disagreement
If there is a commonly held belief or tactic in your industry that you do not agree with for whatever reason, write a post explaining it. People love to read about individuals or companies that go against the grain or succeed in an unusual or unlikely fashion.
Use Your Knowledge Base
Ah, the list post suggestion. It wouldn’t be proper blogging social media marketing advice without mentioning how people love lists. Of course, while simply writing a top ten list won’t get you to the front page of Digg, lists are a nice, easy-to-read-online format and they are relatively simple to compose.
